When is the big fight?
Metal heads across the country are all gearing up for the battle of the bands to be held on July 14. Upcoming bands across the country will compete against each other. These bands are practicing day-in and day-out.
Avinash Ramchandra, drummer of Acid Quartet says, “We will be playing progressive rock and metal with some psychedelic effects also.” Most bands venture into newer arenas during a battle and try to play things they have never played before. “We will play our usual tracks. Many bands complicate things, but we want to keep it simple and play our original tracks. We get to meet bands from across the country,” adds Avinash. The finals will be in Bengaluru on July 26, where bands that qualify in other cities will compete.
These bands promise fun and peppy numbers that some can dance to but many will headbang to for sure. Sonal Chittiappa, vocalist of Hungry says, “Funk is what we have to offer. Our band is different because people can actually dance to our music. So people will come here for a good time and dance till they drop.”
They look at this as an opportunity to reach out to larger crowds. Prujeeth Joshua, drummer of Karios says, “We play progressive melodic metal. We have a positive approach to people and a message for them. The desire is to attract the youth to our music.”
Something striking about these bands is that they all go by funky names. Sonal says, “There is a psychology concept called the drive theory in Maslow’s law. The world runs because people are hungry.” As for Karios, Prujeeth says, “Karios is a Greek word that means opportune time.”
These youngsters are good-spirited. Prujeeth says, “It is not about winning or losing, we need a place to play and people to listen to our music. Our tunes allow us to play at churches and such humble places. But, pubs, bars and such platforms is where are tracks will be recognised.”
But some are looking forward to the great prices to be won. Sonal says, “The rewards will be fantastic and so will the cash prize.” The event will be held at Reliance Time Out in Bengaluru.
