‘We became a little family’

Deepa Mehta has worked with some prominent actors in the industry. In Midnight’s Children, she has an ensemble of stars including Shriya Saran, Seema Biswas, Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher, Siddharth, Rahul Bose, Soha Ali Khan and Shahana Goswami.

Deepa says, “I was very lucky to have the cast that I did. All of them are exceptional in their own right. When you work with a new actor you have to get to know each other a little bit. You both have to figure out what your working process is, what you respond to, what really gets under your skin. My expectations of each of them were extremely high coming into this, and I can honestly say that I’m proud of every single one of them. We became a little family of sorts on set.
It was an intense and grueling shoot and we definitely bonded.”
