Voice of confidence
Speaking is a luxury that most of us take for granted. Life coach, Dr Hiten Vyas stammers and tells us how a ‘shortcoming’ can actually be created into an opportunity to help out others. The 33-year-old UK-based author of Indian origin, through his e-books, helps built confidence in people with stammer.
“In my growing up years, stammering had a major impact on my confidence. I used to be afraid that I would stammer, when I spoke and that people would think less of me. For many years, I just stopped talking. I believed if I didn’t talk, no one would know of my problem,” he says.
But in his 20s, Hiten got into self-development in order tackle the problem head on. “I would put myself into as many speaking situations as I could. The more I read and spoke, the more my confidence grew and I began to see myself, my stammering and the world in a different light,” he says.
Today, Hiten is a charismatic public speaker and enjoys travelling, improvisational comedy and blogging on his subject.
“I know the pain stammering can cause and want to help others facing similar difficulties,” says Hiten, who got trained as a coach from the US and has a degree in pharmacology, a Masters in Computing and a PhD in biomedical information systems.
For Hiten, his e-books are a natural extension to the coaching work. “I felt I could help people who stammer across the world through the electronic platform,” says the author of Job Interview Confidence: Replacing Anxiety with Self-Belief, Phone Confidence: Stop Avoiding and Start Answering, and Presentation Confidence: Stand Up and Be Heard.
“My book are guides for people with stammer, to help them overcome the fear of giving presentations, talking on the phone and speaking at job interviews. I know these are typically difficult situations for these people,” says Hiten, who’s currently writing a book on social anxiety. His e-books are available at pothi.com and Infibeam.
