Virtual Mouse: Logitech Touch Mouse
If you own an Apple iPod Touch or iPhone, Logitech offers a cool new app to control your PC.
Called Touch Mouse, this software gives you a software keyboard and trackpad on your device which allows you to control your PC’s mouse cursor and keyboard over Wi-Fi.
The setup process isn’t tedious; you basically install the Touch Mouse Server on your PC and download the client app (by the name of Touch Mouse, which should be made by Logitech) on your phone or music player. Connect both (the device and your PC) to the same Wi-Fi network, and choose the server from the server list generated within the app. Done! Well, hopefully.
If all went well, you should get a trackpad on screen and be able to control your PC’s mouse cursor remotely. Three mouse buttons and a small keyboard are also a part of the app, and you can use two-finger vertical and horizontal scrolling as well.
This can be a really cool idea while giving presentations (I tried this myself), except when you have to go back, since there’s no convenient way to go to the previous slide from within the app (no arrow keys). So please do practice before hand!
This method does work with ad-hoc networks and phone-created hot-spots, but getting an Apple device to connect to an ad-hoc network can be tricky, it took me quite a while. I found it more reliable to connect to my phone’s hot-spot network.
There’s also an unofficial Touch Mouse app for Windows Phone 8, which I haven’t used, but it exists, should you like to try it. No love for Android, unfortunately.
