Virtual group touches real lives
Vasantam means spring. But the virtual group “Vasantam” on Yahoo is a spring of “love”. A group of like-minded young friends joined hands on Vasantam for a good social cause — charity.
Almost all the members of the group are IT professionals from different parts of the country. They extend donations and other services to organisations working for different causes. Vasantam was started in 2006 by a Bengaluru-based techie, Prabhath Vijayan.
“My friends are in different parts of the globe, and since we have technology free of cost, why not an online group that works effectively for some social good?” I think anybody with a basic knowledge of the Internet is good enough for this,” says Prabhath.
He adds that a virtual group transparent in its money transactions. “Other than donating money we support the students in their studies by arranging special tuitions for them,
organising magazines and newspapers for reading,” says Renjith, a member, who works with Calmove Technologies.
