Veena paks a dirty punch

Gossip is her first name and controversy is her nature. Ask her simple questions and she gets a little restless, itching to rant about anything that would make headlines. She’s not the queen of controversy for nothing.

Yes, we’re talking about Veena Malik aka Zahida Malik, who after her acting stint in Pakistan, changed her name to try her luck on Indian shores.
Veena shuttles between Pakistan and four Indian cities she has been granted temporary permits for. She’s currently shooting for her Kannada version of The Dirty Picture on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Veena says, “I will be here till mid-July with director Trishul. I’m learning Kannada and doing my own dialogue delivery. I have six weeks to complete the film, so I don’t think I will have much time to go around the city.”
How is she dealing with any comparisons to Vidya Balan? “It’s ironical, but I haven’t watched her film. The Kannada Dirty Picture is an original script.” And what does she have to say about her comparison to Rakhi Sawant? “I don’t give a damn about Rakhi,” she retorts.
All excited about her Friday release Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, she says, “It’s my first Bollywood film and I’m so excited to see myself on the silver screen. I give all the credit to Bigg Boss from where I got so many offers. My other films up for release this year are Zindagi 50:50, Supermodels, Mumbai 125 kms and The Dirty Picture in Kannada.”
How does Veena manage to live the life of a vagabond? She is quick to respond, “My dad was in the army, so we moved around a lot. In Class 9, I started living in a girls’ hostel. I moved to Lahore in 2007 and did Bigg Boss in 2010. After that I have been living out of suitcases, so I’m fine with it.”
Talking about her alleged affair with Ashmit Patel, Veena says, “I was very close to him at one point, but today I’m so busy with work that I don’t even know what he’s doing or where he is. I have a huge crush on Ajay Devgn and would love to go on a date with him. For my co-stars in Bollywood, I would choose any actor who’s good over the Khans as I don’t want them to overshadow my character and steal the limelight away from me.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
