Users ditch FB out of boredom
“It’s Facebook where I belong, feels like my second home”, are no more status updates on Facebook as people are spending less time on the website. According to a recent survey, Facebook users are now spending less time on the social networking site, with just two out of five people signing into their profile everyday. When some users were asked the reason behind the dip, they claimed monotony was the trigger.
Ishita Mishra, a mediaperson, says, “I was bored, depressed and tired of watching people self-indulge. Also, I didn’t want people to ask me what I was up to. It’s one thing to be in touch and another to be intrusive. I don’t want to know about the relationship status of an old schoolmate who I barely know. I log in for work purpose as I’m a journalist.”
Agrees Devika Mittal, a student of South Asian University, who says, “It’s not only about Facebook, it is about everything one is excessively involved with. There comes a time when you have had enough of it. I guess the same is happening with social networking sites. I am on Facebook for many reasons including my campaign group so I cannot delete my profile. I log in twice a day and don’t even chat online.”
There are those who have deactivated their account. Ekta, an IAS aspirant, says, “Facebook is too engaging and time-consuming. Sometimes, it also gets personal. A status update on Facebook is followed by comments and status updates of friends. It took up a lot of my time, discussing and debating for no reason. Now, I’m on Twitter and I feel it’s better. Also, you can simply tweet about what you want to share, without worrying about uninvited comments.”
