Unsuccessful men get dumped

Guys, if you want to avoid being publicly humiliated and dumped like poor Arun Nayar, do not give into the temptation of being the latest army candy of a rich, good looking girl. Ever since it became public knowledge that Elizabeth Hurley is seeing cricketer Shane Warne, the British Media is busy doing stories on how Arun, with his bedtime ritual of browsing auction house catalogues to collect cufflinks just turned out to be very boring and unsexy for his wife.
The poor guy was a good husband (he after all moved into her house in the country, became a hand-on parent to step-son Damien and didn’t even disapprove of Liz’s ex-boyfriend Hugh being a permanent fixture in their lives and holidays), but just not exciting or successful as some of Liz’s exes or friends. Why? Well, nobody knew exactly what he did, and according to the Daily Mail, Liz used to fund their expensive holidays and Arun even bummed off her air miles. Now unlike men who think it’s normal to pay for their wives, women seldom respect a man who lives off them. Relationship expert Seema Hingorani explains, “This is the way the human mind is conditioned, men are the providers and women the nurtures. They look upto men who are more happening than them. I have successful women coming to me and complaining that their husbands are not doing well. It bothers them. Many say, ‘I wish I had a happening husband,’ though they are happening in their own right.”
When Lara Dutta started dating Kelly Dorjee, they were both struggling models who became a hit on the ramp together. But later on, only Lara managed to repeat the success story in Bollywood. Along with Kelly’s fame, even his relationship slowly faded away. Bipasha Basu dated Dino Morea for the longest time, left him for a more happening Milind Sonam and quickly dumped the ageing sex symbol to find lasting happiness with the equally happening John Abraham. Pop queen and famous control freak Madonna, turned macho, small time film maker Guy Richie into Mr Madonna, divorced him and is now seeing another toy boy. Angelina Jolie is happy with Brad Pitt but everyone knows who is boss. These ladies find it easy to move on if the guys stop giving into every demand or ask too many questions as they are self-sufficient and financially independent.
The reason Karisma Kapur doesn’t get her way with hubby Sanjay, is because he is richer and more successful than her. That’s why she is forever giving their marriage another shot.
Arun with his Cambridge education, jet-set life and exotic appeal might have been viewed as hot property by Liz, but post marriage, he was reduced to Mr Liz Hurley. He even became a regular in the Indian party circuit only because social bees wanted to befriend the wife. Somewhere down the line Liz must have outgrown him as she really wasn’t dependent on him for anything.
Dr Sameer Malhotra, a psychologist says, “To make a marriage work there are a few factors like mutual trust, understanding, responsibility, compassion, respect and commitment that you must stick by.” Poor Arun’s marriage never really stood a chance as his wife looked towards ex-boyfriend Hugh Grant for understanding. “No one understands me like Hugh, not even Arun or my sister,” she said in an interview. As far as responsibility went, she alone seems to be responsible for her finances and commitment obviously went on holiday soon after Shame Warne started flirting with her.
Unless you plan on doing a David Beckham (Posh was the bigger star when they started dating) and becoming much more happening than your famous partner, prepare yourself to the fact that there might just be no happily ever after.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
