Tweet your way to being famous
Twitter recently registered its 20 billionth tweet. This factoid is amazing when we consider that it reached its 10 billionth tweet only in March. So, what are some of the popular tweeting trends making the rounds?
Tinu Cherian, a software engineer, who organises Tweet-ups, opines that most tweeple tweet about their personal lives, which can lead to excessive information sometimes.”
Hrish Thota, a social media professional agrees, “You can easily over-share on Twitter. So, instead of tweeting about your grocery list, keep it relevant and have many followers.”
Joel Fernandes, a digital marketing professional says, “Corporates have realised that it is easy to grab attention on Twitter and make it part of their marketing strategy.”
However, Hrish disagrees, citing the example of a generator company, “When some tweeple complained about frequent power cuts, this company immediately tweeted solutions.”
Celebrities tweeting are also a big trend, but Hrish says, “Most celebs have simply jumped on the twitter bandwagon and that too ineffectively.”
There is a wave of hashtags mocking these celebs, “Amitabh Bachchan and Airtel tweeted the same thing within 20 seconds of each other once, making it obvious that their accounts were handled by PR agencies. There are also tweets blasting Shahid Kapoor’s tweets because his typos are atrocious,” he says.
