A tropical dreamland

The idea of living in the lap of nature is a captivating thought. The greens of plants make you feel relaxed and the breezy feeling transports you to a mystic world where each day feels like a vacation. A tropical set-up in your house interior can get you this experience. Tropical design concept mentally transports you to exotic locations and permits you to live in it every day even if your house is not located in a tropical area.

To camouflage the interiors to suit your dreamland, follow these steps:

1 Work on the layout of your home. If you already have a green open space, bring it inside by opening walls, segregating interiors and using more of clear glass. Face your furniture towards the outside. In case you do not have an open area, focus on one wall with wallpaper with a palm tree print and install a lot of indoor plants.

2It is important that your room also maintains hygienic conditions, especially if you have large number of plants. Avoid using fertilisers in the room as the inhalation of fertilisers can cause harm. I would personally recommend that you choose potted plants rather than creating a soil bed as potted plants have an advantage, as they can be turned around for sunlight, turned to face a different direction or just turned to display as per your taste. Decide on the number of plants that would go into your room to impart a garden-like feel. Also add some hanging plants to complete the look.

3The colour palette is the most essential when you choose to remodel the house. A colour palette inspired from the natural surrounding will get the desired look. You can adorn the wall with tan, beige and taupe to resemble the earthy colours. The living room looks bright and vivid if you add a hint of bright sunset orange on the sofa. If you want a soothing feel in the bedroom, you can use the combination of sea foam green and ocean blue. The floor in the room can be defined with terracotta tiles or Kota stone in rust colour.

4Now think about the furnishing in tropical house interior design. You can go with natural material. Tropical colours and textures along with the greenery somehow form a cocktail for immense relaxation. Furniture can involve use of natural material such as wicker, rattan, bamboo and teak. Bamboo looks good for barstools, cabinetry or bed. The lesser the furniture, the better it is. Avoid any extra wall designing.

5Last but not the least; accessories add fun to tropical interiors. A rug on the floor with a traditional woven effect, a ceramic pot in the corner of the room, pillows with bold colours, a ceiling fan that looks like palm leaves, all will add the final touch to your beautiful painting. Add light and breezy curtains and choose bed sheets with floral prints to complete the look.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
