Till football tore us apartTill football tore us apart
A survey by a matrimonial website shaadi.com has revealed that a whopping 80 per cent of Indians say they will not marry a person who doesn’t share their passion for football.
Media professional Clint Fernandes says that it’s natural for football fans to prioritise football over everything else. “I have often faced problems in relationships because of my love for football. I’ve lost count of the ‘You don’t have time for me anymore’ arguments,” he says, adding, “Although I don’t go seeking only those partners who are big on football, her being a fan would help.”
And it’s often not just about whether the other person is a fan or not. Kavita Shah, who has been married for more than one and a half years, remembers the day she had a major argument with her husband because she called John Terry cute. “My husband is a major Arsenal supporter, and the fact that I called a Chelsea player cute was beyond what he could handle,” she said.
