Those who stand for the truth
Versatile actor Atul Kulkarni is known to do one film at a time but this year he has a spate of films releasing. The actor says, “I feel doing one film at a time is good because it helps me do justice to the character. Also, if I have a particular look for a film it comes in the way of the other project. So one film is the best way to work. The films that are going to release now have been shot at different times.”
First in line will be his Marathi film Popat. Speaking about it he says, “The unique story attracted me. It’s a social comedy with a twist. We believe this film has a universal appeal so it will have English subtitles.”
Next up is a big ticket release in Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of Zanjeer. “The interesting bit is that my character did not exist in the original Zanjeer. Apoorva wrote the character based on deceased journalist J. Dey and my character is called J. Dey too. We are trying to make a small statement showing what happens to people who stand for the truth.”
But the film Atul is most excited about is his Hollywood project Singularity. “The film should release in the first week of October. It’s my first Hollywood film and I enjoyed working in a different culture and my look is completely different.”
