To teachers, with love
In every student’s life, teachers play a vital role as a guide and mentor during the academic years. Teachers’ Day is around the corner, and college students are set to pay their respects to their teachers and professors. We find out how students in the capital are planning to celebrate Teachers’ Day in their colleges.
Suchi Sharma, treasurer of students’ union at Lady Shri Ram College, informs, “In our college Teachers’ Day is celebrated as a special day and various activities are organised to commemorate the occasion. The various societies of our college gather together and perform for the students and teachers. There will be a dance and music programme for teachers and then the theatre group of our college will be showcasing a short skit in our auditorium. After that we’ll have a rangoli competition and then a small mimicry show by students. We have also planned refreshments for our teachers and later we’ll have a cake cutting ceremony.”
Sinta Sunny, a second year student at Jesus and Mary College, says, “As part of our Teachers’ Day celebrations, our theatre society Mudra will be preparing and performing a special play. After a small function in the auditorium, we’ll go out and treat our class teachers. It will be a small function but we are looking forward to a great day with our mentors.”
For many college students Teachers’ Day is something they associate with their schooldays, however they like to carry forward the tradition at college level too. Gunjan Sehgal, a student at Amity School of Mass Communications, mentions that even though Teachers’ Day is not celebrated in a big way in colleges, it is an important occasion for students.
She says, “This year we will be felicitating our teachers and there will be a programme to honour them. A few students will dance and present a small skit to pep up the mood. It will be a small gesture from the student community for our professors as a mark of respect. We will also try to rope in our college’s NGO AMITASHA in the programme as a part of the CSR responsibility. We have also planned to give awards and titles to our teachers to make them feel special.”
