While taash parties are in full swing for Diwali, we explore how both men and women are taking to a new level of indulgence with lavish nails. After all, who doesn’t want to make their presence felt and what better time than now to give your hands and nails that extra edge?

While men are pampering themselves with lavish manicures, women are going for nail art with bling. As nails come under constant scrutiny, we find out from Manjul Gupta of Nail Bar on how you can dress up your nails.

Shine on: Feel like a starlet, as nails get an all-new emphasis for the festive season. Go for innovative art done with acrylic, gel glitter nail extensions, diamante nails, Swarovski studded and nails with beads. For the festive celebrations, an interesting mix in nail art designs are in huge demand including metallic enamels and glitter nail art and glass balls nail art.

Glitter with gold: If gold is what works for you, then be a Golden goddess with gold nail extensions. Either go in for complete gold nail paint on the nail or better still just use gold on the tip of the nails if you don’t want to get too blingy. Sparkling glitter nail polish is a favourite for this time of the year. You can also paint your nails with pure loose glitter in just a few easy steps. Set the glitter aside next to a paper plate on a flat surface. Paint with one coat of clear nail polish. Hold your painted hand over the paper plate and sprinkle loose glitter slowly over each nail while it is still wet from the clear paint. Make sure each nail is well covered in glitter. Shake off the excess glitter over the paper plate. Wait for a few minutes to let the glitter set in the clear nail polish as it dries. Apply a coat of clear nail polish over the glitter. This will help set the glitter to your nail from the top and the bottom. Wait and apply a second coat of clear nail polish over the glitter.

3D Nail Art: Nail paint is being talked about just as much as handbags and hairdos. 3D nails are raised to get a raised and full effect. Get bedazzled with 3D pearls, flowers, diyas or any other creative design you can think of. Use flowers, bindis, studs, crystals or any other festive motifs with nail glue for a 3D effect and then seal it with a transparent gel, smoothened for finish.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
