Taash parties fire up funtasy nights
Diwali is round the corner, and card parties have already set the ball rolling for festive fun. Party lovers are geared up to enjoy lavish taash parties with various themes and innovative ideas.
Aditya Kapur, owner of Party Hunterz, mentions that usually the most popular themes revolve around casino and games such as Casino Royale, Jackpot Night and Vegas. He says, “We get customers who pick up decorations, theme cutlery, accessories and poker sets as casino games. Although the focus has always been on card games like Teen Patti, more games like BlackJack and Roulette are also becoming trendy. A new trend that has caught up among youngsters is the interest in drinking games. Upto 16 players can play together in popular games like drinking roulette, shots and ladders, boozeball etc.”
Salloli Kumar, socialite and entrepreneur, says, “Usually in card parties there are simple stake tables and in some there are high rollers table, which even have guards around it. Amongst the various parties that I have attended in the city, the most-talked about parties are thrown by Vishal and Rimple Lohia, Riju Jhunjhunwala, Ashok Jain, Rahul and Sharmila Nath.”
Vandy Mehra, director SBJ House of Luxury says, “One can see thematic decor coupled with DJ and sufi singers as the flavour of the season.”
However, entrepreneur Tarun Sarda feels that this year the themes are very unconventional for many parties. He says, “Definitely the central theme is festive and elegant but the decoration can always revolve around a mono colour. I usually attend two to three parties, and sometimes I host the card parties too. I feel good music is the most important element in any party.”
Kamaali Mehta, designer at Kamaali Cutter, feels card parties really don’t require a theme — cash, cards and fun are the mantra for the night. She says, “I usually end up attending 10 to 15 parties spread over the month before Diwali and most parties are focused on gambling with fun setups like casinos, or the decor uses elements from a pack of cards.”
Young people enjoy such parties because they get to experiment with various costumes. Veta Sharma, a PR professional, says, “I have been invited to attend a couple of interesting parties based on themes like Poker Parties and Hannuka party. I already have a hat and earrings of playing cards and I am planning to get a customised tee with a joker card printed on it.” How cool is that!
