Surti as a celeb judge
His hands may be full with several juicy offers from Bollywood, but that hasn’t deterred choreographer Rajeev Surti to back out from his small-screen commitments. Surti, who will be seen as one of the celebrity judges in the brand new season of Dance India Dance, has been busy touring the country, scourging for rare talent from remote corners. The young choreographer is very upbeat about meeting Mithun Chakraborty on the sets very soon. “I love him because he’s very honest and he doesn’t misguide participants,” he says.
Surti says that it was not an easy task to select 61 contestants and then pick the best 16 from them. Recalling his own days of struggle, he says, “I used to participate in a lot of dance competitions during my college days, without my parents’ knowledge.”
He didn’t have their support when he ventured out to make a career in dancing. He started off with choreographing participants in Nach Baliye when he got noticed by Saroj Khan.
But his first break came when Farhan Akhtar offered him Don. “That was the start I needed,” says Surti. And since then he has worked with many big names.
Even his new year will open with a bang with Dharma Productions Stand By Me, starring Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan.
