Superhero gets an Indian avatar
The science fiction genre has always intrigued comic book lovers, who swear by the highly equipped superheroes fighting evil robots and aliens. However, there aren’t many Indian characters and comic books that are inspired by fantasyland of future. Interestingly, Aveon 9 — a digital comic book launched by Rovolt Entertainment, is an attempt by the publishers to introduce the sci-fi comic books and graphics in the Indian book market.
Manish Sinha, CEO, Rovolt Entertainment, who launched Aveon 9, says that this is a comic book with Indian characters in a modern setting. He says, “Indian comic book industry mainly deals with mythological or historical stories, we hardly have Indian sci-fi stories. In this series, we have seven chapters about an epic sci-fi adventure planet called Aveon 9. It is inhabited by humans and aliens in the future. There is a warrior prince and a beautiful princess along with a native creature. The trio fight against evil forces and face unexpected twists and turns throughout the story.”
A global team of designers and writers created the main artwork in the comic book informs Manish, who adds that in two weeks from the launch they have already sold over 5,000 copies.
He says, “Ron Marz, senior American comic book writer is the editor of this series, who along with Shamik Dasgupta, Indian comic book writer, created this comic book for our local readers. The story is inspired from mystical Indian classics and western sci-fi and it combines the creative prowess of renowned artists from across the globe.”
