Sunny is the most dangerous celebrity
The name Sunny Leone should ideally pop-up with a warning: ‘open at your own risk’. Reason being, the Canadian porn star turned Bollywood actress is the most dangerous celebrity in Indian Cyberspace according to a research by security technology company McAfee.
Searches on Leone’s name lead the users to malicious websites designed to steal passwords, personal information or infect the computer with viruses.
In their annual survey, McAfee researched on the famous people to reveal the riskiest celebrity sportsmen, actors and politicians across the web. And according to their finding this year, Sunny Leone displaced Katrina Kaif, who owned this title in the 2011 edition. Sunny ranks first with 9.95% chances of luring people into clicking on malicious links.
Actress Kareena Kapoor comes at No. 3 position followed by Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu. The only man to feature on the list is actor Salman Khan, who comes at No. 8 position with a risk percentile of 4.83%.
Lubna Markar, Sr. Marketing Manager India and South Asia, McAfee, said, “The research was done over a period of a month and conclusion was made after analysing more than 25 Indian celebrities from different spheres. We had also used names of sports personalities in this research but the risk percent for them wasn’t as high as that for Bollywood actors.”
According to cyber expert Ankit Fadia, it’s a trend among cyber criminals to use names of popular actors or create new accounts in their names to infect the web. “Since Bollywood and cricket have a mass appeal, criminals use celebrity names to lure people, especially people from small towns who are crazy. The best safeguard against any such practice is to always have an antivirus installed in your computer and update it regularly. Plus, I advise people not to click on dodgy websites and avoid downloading anything they are not too sure of,” says Ankit.
Pavan Duggal, cyber law expert, says users should be careful before clicking on any celebrity website. “In the recent time, it has become a regular practice among Indians to visit pornographic websites, especially those of Bollywood actors. Often such sites are loaded with spyware and malware and that is the starting point of problem. Users should not access Internet from any unsecured website and should have firewall alerts on their computer that could update them about any unauthorised access,” says Pavan.
