Success was a surprise: Gauri
Debutant director Gauri Shinde might be riding high on the success of Sridevi-starrer English Vinglish. But in spite of having countless ad films to her credit and sharing the limelight with her husband, R. Balki, director and screenwriter Gauri says she is still getting used to the media attention.
“It gets a little too much at times. All the paparazzi and endless camera clicks can make anyone a bit uncomfortable. I do not like too much jazz around anything,” she said while in the city for the launch of The Ace of 8 from HP at The Taj Mahal Hotel.
The success of the film came as a sweet surprise for Gauri, who says that she is excited to see the new crop of female directors in Bollywood creating their own niche and challenging the tried and tested formulae of the industry. “The industry has space for everyone and there are no negative aspects of being a female director in Bollywood. Many female directors like Zoya Akhtar, Anusha Rizvi and even Reema Kagti are doing some great work and it’s very encouraging,” says Gauri.
As her first film continues to be highly critically acclaimed, the director doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to start on another Bollywood project.
“I will be making more ad films for sure. But as for another Bollywood film I am yet to come across something interesting. Hopefully, English Vinglish is not my last film,” laugh Gauri.
