Students look for out-of-the-box courses beyond DU
As the Delhi University (DU) admissions get rolling, the dreams of fucchas to be a part of the North or South campus is gaining momentum. But besides freshers rejoicing over joining their favourite college and courses, there are still many, who are looking out for other options beyond DU. And it’s not only average students, who could not make it to the university, but even good scorers are looking for other courses for a secure future.
Jotika Singh, a 92 per cent holder, could not get through SRCC. So, she has decided to pursue chartered accountancy. “I applied for B.Sc (Maths) in SRCC, as it’s the best college for the subject. But I could get admission, so I have planned to move to Dehradun and will pursue B.Com (Hons) from there. Besides that I will also be preparing for CA along with it. I found this option more practical as both will complement each other.”
Another student, Om Bhardwaj, who scored 84 per cent, applied for Physics (Hons) and he could not get a college of his choice, so he has planned to prepare for engineering this year. “I will prepare for IIT this year and will do so do again next year. But as my chances are quite bleak, I did not take any risk and got started with my engineering preparation.”
And they are a few who secured a seat in DU, but also applied for other courses in different universities. Reha Khanna, who applied for Political Science (Hons), got through Jesus and Mary College, but now she is all geared up to study fashion at Pune University. “I always wanted to go for more professional courses. As soon I got a call from Symbiosis, Pune to do Fashion Communication, I did not give it a second thought and grabbed the opportunity. I have no clue as to what will come next after graduation in political science. This course interests me and will ensure a placement too,” she adds.
And there are a few who are opting for other private institutes for similar courses they had applied for in DU. Smriti Singh, whose first love was to pursue law from the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, has now planned to study journalism, as she couldn’t admission. “I have enrolled for the journalism course in Pioneer Media School. As I love writing and don’t want to waste a year, I opted to go for this. And, I can always apply for law once my graduation is complete.”
Vannya Maheshwari, who couldn’t get a good college for B.Sc Computer Science has now taken up Bachelors in Computer Application from IMS Engineering College, Ghaziabad. “It will be a full-fledged computer course and it assures a good placement. It is one of the best private colleges in management studies and the best part is that it is near my house,” she adds.
