Stripes calendar to save the big cat
Artistic impressions of tigers created by 16 renowned artists — in an effort to keep our tigers roaring — became a part of a special-themed calendar on the big cat. The calendar ‘Save our Tigers’ 2013 was launched at ‘Strokes for Stripes’ recently at The Oberoi.
Talking about his paining on tiger, artist Niladri Paul says, “I believe tigers also have same feelings and emotions like us. I have painted an innocent looking tiger rather than the hunter that we all associate with the animal.â€
Eminent artists whose works were showcased included Arpana Caur, Jai Zharotia, Niladri Paul, professor Niren Sengupta, Sanjay Bhattarcharya, Ajay Zharotia, Krishnendu Porel, Pratul Dash, P. Shivani Bhardawaj, Amarendra Maharana, Prittam Priyalochan, Sandeep Jigdung and Vinita Dasgupta.
An initiative by Aircel, these soul-stirring art pieces were subsequently auctioned to raise funds, which were donated to Wildlife Trust of India.
Lyricist, author and poet Prasoon Joshi also read out a few lines on saving tigers. He said, “A lot needs to be done to save the animal, which is on the verge of extinction. We need to curb poaching.â€
