Step up for harmony
More than 1,000 inmates of Tihar Jail were mesmerised watching first of its kind performance on wheelchairs by 10 differently-abled artists in the city recently. The performance was a part of national awareness campaign “Celebrating Abilities” by Ability Unlimited Foundation in association with Hans Foundation.
Tihar ashram was filled with applause as the programme started with Sufi dance on wheelchairs, followed by Bharatnatyam, Yoga, and Bhaghavadgeeta on wheels.
Superintendent of Tihar Jail no. 3, Rajesh Chauhan says that many such programmes are organised for jail inmates to boost their enthusiasm, “From kavi sammelan, dance and cultural activities, a lot many events are organised to entertain and sensitise the inmates.”
Guruji Syed Sallauddin Pasha, founder director and choreographer of AUF says, “After the performance, one of the inmates said to me that he feels everything is possible with strong willpower. This is the message we were trying to spread.”
