Sri’s kids encourage comeback
Sridevi’s children love the fact that their mother is back where she belongs, on the silver screen. “My kids said that they liked my look (in the film English Vinglish) and also loved that fact that I’m going back to my profession, acting. Everyone in the family, from Boney to my kids, supported me a lot,” says the diva.
She is all praise for debutante director Gauri Shinde. She says, “I am totally a director’s artist. I followed Gauri blindly. Being in front of the camera after such a long time was a fresh experience. But having worked under the guidance of Gauri, I think it will be a little difficult for me to work with any other director!” Sri says she opted to take up the film because the story was so intriguing, adding, “When Gauri narrated the story I instantly felt that this is what I want to do.”
While she is equally confident wearing Western and Indian outfits, Sridevi’s character in the film dresses very simply, in saris. “Wearing a sari and cultivating very simple mannerisms was a requirement of my character. I could live up to it because Gauri kept guiding me at every step. I even had to learn to make laddoos!” she smiles.
The evergreen actor says she is in awe of today’s stars. “It is very difficult to point out any favourite actor as such. But on the whole I feel all the actors have lots of energy and they are very good at their work.”
