Speed junkies set to vroom
Biking is not just about fun and feeling the adrenaline rush on the road. For many biking enthusiasts it’s a cult, an unsaid religion of sorts that bikers in the city swear by.
This weekend, many bikers and biking groups in the city will ride all the way from Delhi to Goa to participate in the India Bike Week (Feb 2-3) and National HOG (Harley Owners Group) rally (from Jan 29-31) to celebrate their passion for bikes, music and adventure sports.
Rishi Pahwa of Bharti Realty Limited, who owns an Iron 883, mentions that he can’t wait to be in Goa and meet like-minded bikers. He says, “My affair with bikes started when I started working in merchant navy. The first bike that I bought was a Roadking 250 cc, then I purchased a Honda Kamikaze, Royal Enfield and my latest buy is a Harley Davidson. This will be my longest trip on the Iron 833 so I am very excited to do this. The first preparation for this trip was to get my leave sanctioned from office, as it would take around 4-5 days on road to reach Goa from Delhi. I will be going with my family and this holiday would cost me around Rs 1 lakh, so making all the arrangements needed to be made well in advance.”
Similarly, Gaurav Kachru, a venture capitalist and proud owner of a Fat Boy, also shares his excitement and says, “I am the founder of Motorhead motorcycle club in Delhi, and I have done many bike rides before. I have been riding bikes for more than 20 years and I have covered almost 20,000 km on my newest ride the HD Fat Boy, which I purchased a year ago. I try and do an outstation trip every quarter and every Sunday our group goes on long rides in and around Delhi. For us these two major bike events in Goa will be like one big holiday.”
Ruchi Makwana, hotelier and a bike enthusiast, mentions that she will be riding with her husband from Delhi to Goa for the national HOG rally. She says, “I will be riding an Iron 833 and we will be covering around 2,100 km on road from Delhi to Goa. It will be a five-day trip and I have already updated all the gadgets that will be required during this long ride. I have kept a good helmet and knee pads along with other necessary equipments. This is one of the biggest rides and I am looking forward to meeting more women riders in Goa, who will be coming from different parts of the country.”
For Karan Chauhan, a biker and marketing head, going to India Bike Week on his Royal Enfield Classic 350 cc is all about having a good time on the road. He says, “I love biking and I recently purchased my bike, so this will be my first long trip on the road. I am looking forward to this ride and I will be travelling with another biker group for the India Bike Week. The best thing about these events is that you get to chill with so many bike lovers on the road. There are many interesting discussions and activities that one can be a part of, so it’s like a big holiday for bikers across India.”
