Sid’s tweet makes women see red

Sidhartha Mallya is in the headlines again. This time it is for his tweet on the Luke Pomersbach-Zohal Hameed ‘indecent’ incident. Sid’s tweet that flared up the issue reads, “The girl who is accusing Luke is saying he hit her 'fiance'...what a load of f******* s***. She was all over me last night and asked for me bbm pin, so if he was her fiance she wasn't exactly behaving like a future wife.” Whatever triggered Sid to tweet like this, it was surely not welcomed by tweeple. Despite the follow-up tweets about handling the case as per law, Jr Mallya, sure seems to have rubbed most women, the wrong way.
“Just because he is a celebrity, he doesn’t get a license to tweet whatever he thinks. He needs to be more responsible with his words. Being arrogant and assuming he can get away with anything is not done,” says Karishma Benjamin, a volunteer project manager.
Known to be close to most of his team members, Sid was perhaps trying to support Luke. But taking a stand against a victim in an alleged molestation case could misfire at times.
“So many strangers ask for BBM pin. There isn’t anything wrong in that. If she asked for the pin, that has nothing to do with her being someone else’s future wife. It seems like Sidhartha has tweeted in a fit of anger. Celeb or no-celeb, you need to be careful of what you say. In this case he had to be all the more careful,” says model Apoorva Vishwanath.
Though Sid tweeted later that if Luke was at fault he would face the necessary sanctions, it was a tad too late. Once uttered, words cannot be taken back. “He should not have passed a judgement on the girl’s behaviour. He is childish and never thinks before talking about someone like that. Though his later tweets made sense, he must have used discretion initially before the damage was done,” says Dina Jacob, a copy writer.
To tweet or not to tweet, to be Sid or not to be Sid, might be the thought in Sidhartha’s mind. But his image seems to have suffered post this fiasco. “It is pretty obvious he is trying to cover-up for Luke. Everyone knows how he is. When he is at fault how can he talk about others? That’s annoying,” says Kasturi Ramnath, a student.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
