Shopaholic men can face fertility problems
Women watch out, men have a good excuse for not going shopping with you. A new research states that shopping makes men impotent and it’s bad for their health.
Researchers have discovered that a chemical compound found on some cash receipts contains a hazardous substance, Bisphenol A (BPA), which suppresses male hormones in the body and can make men impotent.
We spoke to avid shoppers and asked if this study will deter them.
Pawan Hora, business development head, Wishbox Studio doesn’t agree with the study. A self-confessed shopper, he reasons, “All I can say is that I enjoy shopping. I am not trying to question the credentials of such a study, but I am sure that such a thing can only affect men who are shopaholics.”
Angel card reader Shilpa Kanugo says that she is a bare minimum shopper. But she is glad that her fiance is just like her and doesn’t like shopping much. “However, my male friends who love shopping should be wary,” she adds.
Those who weren’t big fans of shopping feel this study holds no water. Sumit Kaushik, an entrepreneur, 23, says that his mom shops for his clothes, be it tees or formals. “I find shopping a waste of time and besides, I am very restless and this study gives me a solid reason not to go shopping,” he adds.
The study also illustrates that BPA is widely used in tins of food and canned drinks to toughen the internal lining of the container. It has been linked to breast cancer, heart disease, obesity, hyperactivity and other disorders, and has been banned in Canada and some places in the US.
Angshuman Roy, a professional, says for men it’s more than just shopping. “When men shop, they also eat and drink. BPA is used in tins and can be linked to disorders associated with metabolism and fertility.”
