Shiny, happy people
How bare-faced can one go to a party? Most girls never go on a night out without wearing makeup. They confess they would never appear in public without painting their faces on a night out.
There has been a debate in the international beauty circuits on how girls don’t feel naturally confident without wearing makeup. Jenna Menard, global colour artist from Clinique which has stores all over the country, shares tips on how to maintain an au naturel look even with makeup. She meshes her artistic experience to develop shades fit for women in real life.
Base effect
Create a fine balance with complementing elements of your makeup. For an everyday makeup regime, less is more, so a light foundation is enough for a good base. No matter the formula, if the shade is wrong, you can’t hide it. Try to make it unnoticeable, even if you have to add a liquid highlighter on top, to convey “this is my beautiful skin and not foundation” look! Start slow, with a small amount and slowly build up coverage.
Small subtleties like soft brown liner, mascara and a dab of lip gloss or tinted lip balm makes a world of a difference in that it’s not easy to tell if you are wearing makeup or not, but it still makes you feel different.
Eye do
Makeup shouldn’t be a routine and trying new things doesn’t always have to be dramatic. On the weekend when you have more time, try facial accents, doing up eyes, a daring shade on the lips or a poppy blush. Focus on the eyes or the lips rather than both, especially when using shades that have a kick to them. Choose shades that won’t compete but complement each other. For the eyes, layer textures to create depth. Start with a liner and smudge along the lash line, top and bottom. Use a cream colour base over the liner, and layer a powder shadow to create more depth on parts of the lid. Allowing the cream colour base to show through will give you the sense of depth. Also, by layering textures you will add staying power to your colour creation.
Blush on
Cream blushes are great to keep a natural finish while powder blushes can be used to vary the texture for the cheeks. For lips, know what look you want to achieve first. There are ways to make a nude or bold colour work with a bare face. Use a brush for a precise bold lip, or soften the edges for a softer stated, stained, bold lip. The “apply, blot, apply, blot” technique helps your lip colour to stay longer.
