Shades of spirituality
Self-introspection inspired artist Vandana Rakesh to paint a collection that portrays the vices of the human life. In “Insight and Outlook” — a solo exhibition by Vandana that will be showcased at the Dhoomimal Art Centre, she tries to recognise the true nature of a person through her spontaneous understanding.
Vandana says that if spirituality is understood well, then it can become a way of life. “Since I am practicing Rajyoga meditation for quite sometime, I have understood that the five vices that are mentioned in Gita — kama, krodh, lobh, moh, ahankar have become the base of any human being,” she says.
Vandana has combined her knowledge of spirituality with observations of her day-to-day life to put together this collection. She thinks that kama, ie, sex is so hugely popularised in every section of our society that it is making our society obsessed with our bodies.
“Spirituality says that the body is just an accumulation of organs. Without the soul, this body is useless. Hence, everyone should be soul-conscious rather than body-conscious. Krodh or anger is similarly growing in the society. People don’t trust each other,” she says.
