Seniors play love gurus to freshers
The transition from school life to college is tough for youngsters as it throws them out of their comfort zones and they are pushed into an exciting yet challenging path ahead. Most freshers fall back on the unofficial ‘Gurus’ — like for instance the love guru, the cultural guru and the guru who’s an expert at handling professors.
These gurus make college life simpler for these youngsters and in spite of all the ragging; there are a few who ease the tough phases of college life.
Sowmya Chandrashekhar, a Visual Communication student from Chennai, has found her ‘guru’ in Namashree; her senior to whom she confides most things. She says, “I can approach her at any time and speak about anything that troubles me. It’s nice to have such a good rapport with your senior.”
College life is all about fun and meeting new people. In fact, ragging is a process that most youngsters look upon as an opportunity to interact with their seniors.
“I had a blast at my freshers’ meet with the seniors. Meeting like-minded people is always fun and even though we had our share of ragging, I can approach my seniors any time,” says Shikha Marwah, a commerce student at MMK College,?Mumbai.
While most ‘gurus’ deal with the usual relationship issues, there are those that help with matters concerning professors and even classmates. Aditi Khanna, a student at J.D. Birla College, Kolkata, says, “My senior is a guru of sorts. She helps me take all my important decisions.”
