The Scope for unique creations
A fashion design graduate, Pulkit Sharma has designed footwear with a widened toe area and adjustment strip for women with arthritis. “Women with arthritis confine themselves to their houses, but these specially designed shoes will help them lead a ‘normal’ life,” says Sharma.
The young designer has also created an eco-friendly floor cleaner that is made of pet bottles and uses less water and more steam to clean.
Displayed at Scope 2012, the graduation ceremony of the design institute Raffles Millenn-ium International (RMI) had many students like Sharma who looked at things differently and came out with some of these unique creations.
A graduate of RMI’s graphic design course, Samiksha Sharma created a graphic movie, The Happier Film, which is a replica of the documentary, The Happy Film, made by the famous graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister.
The show also had collections in swimwear, corporate wear, sportswear, monsoonwear and In-dian summerwear bas-ed on the theme, ‘East Meets West.’
Arshiya Singh, a student of fashion designing, had a swimwear collection with jackets in vibrant colours inspired by the Punjabi embroidery, phulkari. “My range is designed for yacht and pool parties. I found the theme challenging as many people hardly like to experiment with swimwear,” says Singh.
Fashion designing student, Vinay Luthra designed gowns inspired by Kate Middleton. “I have used collars and a train in the garments. The bright colour shows her life after marriage, while the darker colour shows her middle-class life before marriage,” he says.
