Santana strums peace chords
Carlos Santana, aka the god of guitar, was recently in town for a jam-packed performance at the Galgotias University Campus as part of the F1 rocks concert. Santana along with his dummer wife Cindy expressed his delight on visiting India and mentioned that he is here to bring the message of peace and love.
The guitarist, who was dressed in a casual white shirt with colourful motifs and a black hat with a bright blue gemstone, spoke about his love for all things Indian. He said, “I am so glad to be in this country. There is so much culture here, parade of colours and flavours in all aspects. I love Indian food and music. To come to India is like connecting to one’s spiritual self, long forgotten. Today, children are very materialistic. They lack passion and courage.”
The musician also emphasised how the world today needs music to heal and to reform. He said, “I believe that music was created to reconnect with the heart. Back in 60s, world peace was possible and we hippies wanted to create a movement to unite the world with music.”
Speaking about his global musical collaborations, he said, “Collaboration is very natural and I like to compose music with feelings and emotions. I wanted to jam with Ali Akbar Khan. I think he was the god of gods, the lion of lions in music.”
