Sallu’s moustache sparks a new trend

After Salman Khan dons a thin moustache for his new film Dabangg, for the role of a cop, which he says is inspired by veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, seems sporting facial hair is back in vogue.
This trend that was made popular by yesteryear actors like Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt is back again. From Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Ajay Devgan sporting a grungy look with a beard and moustache in Once Upon A Time in Mumbai to the lover boy Emraan Hashmi, who plays the character of a don in the same movie, the moustache seems to be winning fans.
Interestingly, this rugged and macho look is becoming a hit among among young boys and professionals, who would love to look cool and ‘manly’.
Aditya Sinha, a college student and RJ, though doesn’t think that the moustache will suit him, he stills wants to try it for fun. “I like experimenting and being a radio jockey, it is part of my profile to have a vivacious persona and a moustache will only add to it. As the macho look is here to stay, I would love to don one like Abhishek Bachchan did in Raavan.”
But experts say that one should go for the rights one, something that suits their personality. Nitin Bal Chauhan, a fashion designer, who is proudly carrying off the look for the past 10 years, taking inspiration from Keanu Reaves and Johnny Depp, says, “I kept a moustache, just to give my beard company. The look of actors nowadays is completely character-driven, which ultimately becomes a rage among their fans. And as they experiment with from spikes to a goatee, youngsters follow suit. The macho look is going to stay in tinseltown for a while, but one should be careful before going in for it, as it’s something, which will not enliven all face types. Moreover, rather than going for the big one, one can try a softer moustache along with a beard. It is bound to get you noticed.”
Interestingly, even girls are cool about their ‘friends’ keeping a moustache. Kapil, a professional loved Vivek Oberoi in Rakta Charita and Akshay Kumar in Chandni Chowk, so he too now has a moustache. “Although stars have influenced me, but as I have to take interviews everyday, I thought a comfortable beard and a moustache will make me look sober. And the best part is that even my girlfriend loves it,” he says.
