Rubber band mania
All the craze and in the news as far as youth fashion is concerned are rubber band bracelets. Kids wear them to school, to parties and at home to lounge around in. The bracelets come in all shapes — some take the form of animals others look like musical instruments, footballs and so on. They can be neon so that they glow-in-the dark, glittery or tie-dyed. A collectible craze would you say? Yes, a trend or a fad — call them what you will but they look appealing, come in all shades of the rainbow and you can trade them or give them to your friends.
Why bands?
One of the reasons is that you are supposed to give them away as gifts or signs of friendship or simply trade them. They can be worn singly or in large numbers — all depending on what grabs your fancy. They could also be worn to tie your hair back or around your ankle or wrist. So, in this sense they are multi-purpose.
What’s in?
Mystical creatures, which include a Phoenix, along with tie-dyed bands, glow-in-the-dark or glitter bands and yes, white rubber bands are what are in. And since the bands are made in moulds, they keep their shape even after being stretched.
What about safety?
Some are really tight but are harmless though experts and doctors advise that they should be kept out of the reach of infants and toddlers.
Who’s buying them?
Everyone young person from London to Ludhiana is sporting a rubber band bracelet!
