Romanian tryst on Indian shores
Popular Romanian band Deepcentral were one among the many foreign artistes who rocked Indian shores late last year. The band had a memorable experience and so did those who witnessed the band in action in Kolkata, Delhi, Pune and Goa. Comprising Doru Todorut and George Calin, Deepcentral amassed quite a fan base in the country, thanks to the social networking site, Facebook.
Talking about their experience in India, George says, “It was amazing. We especially loved the crowd in Pune that seemed to have a different taste in music compared to the other cities where we performed. Pune felt like home and we want to come back to India soon.” Doru chips in, “Indian people are amazing and I can’t wait to party with them again.”
Essentially catering to dance music, the two-member band didn’t need the multi-city Indian tour to learn about Indian music. George says, “Bollywood has spread its wings to Romania. Everyone knows at least a song or two. “ Doru adds, “The minute we landed in India we started singing Inci ki dana.”
The band’s songs Cocaine and Russian Girl have become a hit with partygoers both abroad and in India. In fact, their song In Love reached the top-slot in Europe chart hits last season.
George enthusiastically says, “2010 was definitely the best year for dance music. In Europe, it’s taken over music charts and now there’s no border between dance music and mainstream anymore. The US too has warmed up to dance music. David Guetta, who had an awesome year, has done a great job there, collaborating with some of the biggest names in hip hop and pop.”
