Revamp to stay ahead
Wondering why your Facebook page is looking different from last night? Or have you been pondering why your Google page has a blue arrow on the left side? Change is quintessential to stay ahead in the ever changing world of social media, as various networking sites like Twitter, Foursquare, UberSocial, Snaptu, Picasa and Flickr are undergoing periodic revamps.
There is intense competition between various social networking sites and there is a pressing need to keep innovating. For instance, Facebook’s timeline now gives you a detailed account of videos, web links, news feeds which have kept your friends busy. Similarly, Twitter has collaborated with DeviantART, Flickr, YouTube, Myfrog and Twitpic. The location-based network, Foursquare has just introduced an application which allows you to build business ideas on the go. Management consultant Rishabh Jain feels most youngsters can deal with the rapid changes since the medium is conducive to change, “Social media has now come to a stage of collaboration. Personally, I think the pace is great. When something is growing so fast, why stop it?”
For most youngsters, the various changes have surmounted to a challenge. Student Sakshi J says, “I feel we are spoilt for choice. There are so many things to do with just one website and some people do feel they are removed from their comfort zone when the look of a website is changed.”
So is this a matter of concern? Social media marketing consultant Vikram Angelo says, “We are aware that the frequency of change might irk some users. But if you look at the bigger picture, you will see that your credibility lies in your presence on the social media radar. If you want to exist in public memory in the next five years, doing what you are doing, then social media is the only way to achieve that”
