The return of the vamp
After her last outing on Sach Ka Saamna, Urvashi Dholakia is back on the small screen. Urvashi after a long hiatus is doing what she does best — play the vamp in a new show on Zee, called Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharma Yudh.
Known for her over-the-top make up and characteristic attire, this time round, Urvashi will be seen in a simpler avatar, albeit with her large trademark bindis. “This role is going to be different in many ways. It’s nothing close to what viewers have seen me do so far,” says Urvashi excitedly.
Urvashi will be seen playing a mother in the show, but has no qualms about being typecast in older roles. “I was sceptical in the beginning about whether I would look the part, but I was not worried about being typecast. This show is a sort of comeback for me. This time, I am attempting something I haven’t in a long time…I play Malini Yadav, a socialite, who has not achieved much in life, but is very ambitious and will leave no stone unturned to bring about a change in her lifestyle. To achieve her end, she adopts means that fall on the farthest side of what is ‘right’ in the purest sense,” Urvashi says.
Urvashi admits that while Malini’s moral compass isn’t much of a shift from characters she has portrayed earlier, she adds, “I am known for my vamp-ish roles. The challenge for me is in giving the character a fresh look so that audiences stop relating to my previous roles and accept me in my latest avatar.”
