Re-invention is Ganju’s mantra

One of the well know faces of the city’s party circuit, actor and host Geetika Ganju was recently awarded the Best Emcee Female award during the Live Quotient India Awards. While the diva says that it’s humbling to earn recognition for an offbeat career, she adds that re-inventing herself has been her mantra.

Geetika’s career span has exceeded her own expectations. She admits that for conducting a high profile event, the host has to have complete, charismatic personality. “It’s a highly competitive job. You have to be smart, witty, humorous and always on your toes. For me, it’s been 13 years and re-invention has been the way forward for me,” says Geetika, who’s now also focussing on her writing,” she adds.
But how did this career happen to her? “After completing my post graduation from in mass communication, I wanted to become a camera person. In fact, I was the camera person for the film projects there, but fate had something else in store. Many television producers would come to our college for shootings in the studios. One day some one saw me. I did something for TV and I was chosen to do the first show ever for Honda. It took me a while to decide that this was what I actually wanted to do,” she says. Talking about the kind of events she enjoys to hosts, she says, “I enjoy hosting awards nights as such events give me a chance to script to my heart’s content. For me to deliver a script that is plastic is the most boring experience. I love shows with humour and lots of interaction. But I hate the process of make-up and wish I didn’t have to control what I eat for the purpose of staying in shape,” she says.
“But I am trying very hard to focus on my fitness levels, given the fact that I have to care for my daughter too,” she signs off.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
