Ranbir reveals his musical side

It seems actor Ranbir Kapoor is taking his role in the film Rockstar a bit too seriously. He is not just promoting the film aggressively, but the 29-year-old is also learning to play the guitar to make his character look authentic and his promotional activities more interesting.
“Since the character in the film was that of a musician, I felt it was important to learn how to play the guitar because when I would perform on the stage before large audiences, it should look real,” says Ranbir.
The actor, who is essaying the role of the protagonist Jordon in the film, revealed that director Imtiaz Ali encouraged him to take to the instrument.
“I started learning the guitar during the making of the film. I basically practiced all the songs of the film. Imtiaz also encouraged me to go to A.R. Rahman’s studio in Chennai for the recordings. I was really excited to be part of the music recording process, I learnt a lot there,” he adds.
Ranbir will also be strumming the guitar at the special Rockstar concert that is slated to take place on Tuesday at the Bhavan’s College in Andheri. He will be sharing the stage with composer Rahman for two songs from the film.
“I will be playing the guitar live for two songs Jo Bhi Main and Sadda Haq. I’m not saying I’m a professional and I can play very well, but I know that I can play Jo Bhi Main very well,” says Ranbir.
Rahman, who helped Ranbir a little in his learning process, is all praise for the actor’s determination and hard work. “Ranbir is very hardworking. He used to learn a few chords and then go practise and then come back all prepared. He was very determined,” he says.
When asked Ranbir who is a rockstar from his view of point, the actor, replies: “To be a rockstar you cannot be aware of the fact that you are one. If you can express yourself honestly, and in a truthful way, if you have something to say through your music, that truly represents the tag of a rockstar.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
