Rajini’s jeans missing from Jeanaration campaign

There’s been a lot of hype lately about superstars auctioning their jeans in a bid to raise funds for the NGO Parikrma that gives access to world class education to underprivileged children. And while Parikrma’s Jeanaration will feature jeans worn by both Bollywood and South stars, superstar Rajinikant’s name is missing.

It was writer and columnist Shobhaa De who got all the celebs under one roof and in a bid to do something different for Parikrma’s global campaign, she asked the stars to donate a pair of jeans. “Yeah! As the saying goes, ‘It’s all in the jeans’. We have requested all the celebrities enlisted with us to donate one of their jeans duly signed by them. These jeans will be served hot to the buyers… The highest bidder will walk away with the jeans of their favourite stars. The amount for bidding will vary according to the status of each star. The funds raised will be used to help an underprivileged child,” she says.
It’s surprising that one of the most popular stars of the country, Rajinikant does not feature on the auction list. De and Parikrma founder Shukla Bose say, “Actually, we did send him a letter and he thanked us for the same but we are yet to receive a written acceptance from him. Hence we did not want to mention his name till he accepts it.”
While megastar Amitabh Bachchan donated a pair of signed jeans, though one which has never been worn by him, almost all Bollywood A-listers, from Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapur, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor to her father Anil Kapoor and Kangna Ranaut, have consented to donate a pair of jeans.
From the South, Rana Daggubati, Trisha, Suriya, Madhavan, Vikram and Dhanush have consented to join the Jeanaration bandwagon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
