Rahman Jr. debuts on stage
Ameen Rahman, son of A.R. Rahman, made a surprise stage entry in Chennai recently and enthralled the huge gathering with his first ever solo piano performance.
The 10-year-old Ameen introduced himself very shyly saying he was playing the Minuet in G minor by the classical great, J.S. Bach. A replica of his dad, ARR, he said that his performance was a tribute to his father’s film Roja. Though he did not speak much, he made sure that his recital spoke volumes, keeping the audience spellbound for a while.
Singing is not new to Jr Rahman either. He has sung a part of a track, Na Na, in Rahman’s debut Hollywood flick, Couples’ Retreat. Speculations also ran high recently about Ameen appearing in a music video for a peppy number in his dad’s composition, which was helmed by none other than the maestro himself. In the meantime, Rahman has been nominated for this year’s (2012) 85th edition of the prestigious Oscar Awards for his original score for People Like Us by Alex Kurtzman.
While he bagged the coveted award twice for his original score for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, he lost out to Randy Newman for We Belong Together from Toy Story 3 at the 83rd edition in 2011 when he was nominated for 127 Hours.
