Proud to be swadesi with colours of India
Everybody loves to experiment with the tri-colour on Republic Day. While a plain white sari with a tri-colour border or salwar kameez is passé, trendy jumpsuits and block dresses in tri-colour are in for the quintessential Indian look this Republic day.
Designers in the capital get creative with the colours of India in a manner that adds swadesi essence and yet looks stylish.
For a trendy appeal, designer Puja Arya has brought out the Indianness in her retro collection. “Instead of highlighting all the three colours of the flag, my Republic Day collection is in green, as it symbolises growth and prosperity. From stylish belted dresses to flared bell pants, these outfits are in silk with gota embroidery for an Indian touch. One needn’t wear all the colours, a hint of any one is enough,” she says.
Agrees designer Deepika Govind, who is spreading the message of ahimsa (non-violence) this Republic Day. “I have designed hand-woven stoles and shawls made of ERI silk, also called peace silk from Guwahati. It’s a silk which is made without killing the silkworm. It spreads the message of non-violence and peace. These stoles are done in vegetable dyes like pure indigo, greenish grey and red. One can simply wrap them over denims and khadi jacket along with tri-colour bangles for a perfect Republic Day look,” she says.
While Fendi has come out with small sleek tri-colour clutch, few online brands have stylish jewellery with tri-colour stones and cashmere stoles with a tri-colour border. Bringing the classy Gandhian look, Ekmatra, a khadi brand, has a new range of hand-woven khadi kurtas, shawls and Nehru jackets in organic colours. The idea is to spread a word about eco-friendly fashion.
For a more chic yet simple look, designer Jessica Sawhney of Trendy Divaa suggests stylish tri-colour jumpsuits. “We have orange and green jumpsuits, which one can team up with white belt and pearl studs. One can opt for single shade one-shoulder dresses in orange or green for formal gatherings and get-togethers during the day,” she adds.
Designer Riddhi and Siddhi of Mapxencar suggest a mix and match look. “Try teaming up a white shirt with neon coloured trousers or skirts for a perfect Indian feel. Block dresses in any single tri-colour hue is also an elegant option.”
