From PR person to face of YRF
Parineeti Chopra is now one of Bollywood’s most popular leading ladies with top filmmakers vying to sign her for their films. The actress however made her debut in a film with a miniscule role (Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl) where she shared screen space with three other actresses. As we catch up with the actress at Yashraj Studios, Parineeti, who is sitting pretty in a trendy dress, says she has no regrets about her choice of debut. She says, “I feel I had the best debut that anybody could have had; it was an amazing role with an amazing director. I love Maneesh Sharma with all my heart and he has made me the actress that I am today.”
Parineeti goes on to add that being an actress was never her agenda but life had its own plans for her. “It feels strange since I used to work behind the scenes (as a PR professional for Yashraj) and now I’m the face of their films. I never imagined I would be an actress… I guess it was destiny.”
Now that she has had two releases and is all set for the third, the actress says she feels more confident about her craft. “I’m a little more aware of technical details which help me in my performance. However, I prefer to concentrate on what my director is saying, I don’t use brain too much,” she says with a laugh.
With her previous film Ishaqzaade being a big hit, the expectations are high from her next, Shuddh Desi Romance. Parineeti is aware of the buzz and seems prepared for it. She says, “I am not afraid of living up to expectations but I do hope people are not disappointed. They should love me in this film as much as they did in Ishaqzaade. I guess I’ll hope that they do even for my 50th film!”
The promos portray Parineeti’s character in SDR as cute and bubbly, just like her previous roles but Parineeti is quick to point out that isn’t the case. She reveals, “I don’t identify with my character at all. Everybody thinks I’m bubbly and energetic, and when they watch the promos again, they feel I am like that in this film too. But that’s only in the songs. In the film I’m very quiet, mature and sensible. I don’t talk too much and prefer to come straight to the point. I hope that’s a pleasant surprise for the audience. I am a modern girl but I don’t identify with my character much because she’s a very different person than how I am.”
One of the perks of being a popular film actor is having fans who adore her and make sure that she feels pampered and loved. She smiles as she reveals, “A lot of fans send me letters and gifts. I don’t know how they have my address but it’s really sweet of them.”
While her film commitments keep her busy, Parineeti says she hopes to take some time off for a cause she is passionate about. “I’m passionate about women empowerment though it may sound boring to others. I am concerned about the safety of girls, given today’s scenario. Girls in India live in fear, as they are not sure about their safety. They don’t know whether they can do anything without facing flak from their family or society whereas men live a more fearless life. I hope that changes.”
