From playing the simpleton to a real star
She shot to fame with her a role of the girl-next-door in Aisha, and since then there’s been no looking back. Amrita Puri, who is eagerly awaiting the release of her forthcoming flick Blood Money, says working towards one’s goals makes all the difference.
From banking to films:
Everyone thought it would be natural for me to follow in my father’s footsteps and earn big bucks in the banking sector. But the future turned out to be completely different. I always had a penchant for theatre and acting. What started out as performing in plays turned into the ‘bigger picture’.
The reality called ‘hard work’:
Acting is no piece of cake. My role in Aisha was much talked about but it brought on a bigger responsibility. I now have to prove myself with every film that comes my way.
Breakthrough moment:
Convincing my parents wasn’t an easy job since most of my family belongs to a financial background. But when they saw my first film they knew this is where I belong. They are proud parents today and their support means the world to me.
Learning process:
Each day is a new lesson. Meeting and working with some of the most experienced people in the industry is a big boon for someone like me.
It’s like a dream come true considering my second film is with someone like Mahesh Bhatt. I look at it as more of a challenge.
The change in me:
Being in this profession has given me a larger-than-life perspective. I have become more outgoing and confident in the way I carry myself. But I do know that attaining the status of a star is still a long way off!
