A peachy slumber
When it’s time for sweet slumber, why not make the most of it. We all know eight hours of beauty sleep works wonders on your skin. What if we tell you that you can do even better with night replenishers that work while you’re sleeping? Skin care and aroma magic therapy expert Dr Blossom Kochhar shares tips on how these will work before you crawl under those cozy covers, to get the complexion of your dreams.
Night is right
The regime of night replenishers goes back as old as the Roman times, when ladies would apply fine olive oil before sleeping. These have now gained popularity worldwide with various scientific innovations and miracle ingredients for both men and women.
Before you pick up a bottle from the shelves you must know the needs of your skin, its type and the list of ingredients. While your skin goes through so much stress and pollution, it needs its restoration time for repair and rejuvenation and with every passing day, it tends to lose its elasticity and that’s where the night replenishers come to play. Your skin’s power of absorption increases at night when you are asleep. Even young girls can use nighttime creams in various formulations to help reduce breakouts at that age.
Au naturale
Look for special nutrients that aid in fighting free radicals and natural ingredients like aloe vera, honey, rose, jasmine, wheatgerm and essential oils in your night creams. As you cross your 30s you can change them to skin awakening elements and look for collagen, soy extract, frankincense, patchouli and vitamins like Vitamins B3, B5, A, C, E to stimulate cell growth. Even night serums are good. You can look for Siberian ginseng, stem cells of lotus flower or rice bran as essential ingredients in serums.
Those with very oily skin must use only a gel based replenisher, as these are oil free. Avoid heavy night creams as these can tend to clog your pores. Worldwide, the trend is now moving towards light night creams.
Combat creams
Cleanse your face thoroughly, pat dry and slather on the cream, massaging it with gentle upward strokes. Besides your face, apply it on your neck too. You can use hot compressors to allow these to absorb well. Apply the replenishers and leave it on for a few minutes before you jump onto your bed. Don’t expect these creams to work if you’re getting only three hours of sleep. Aim for six to seven hours of shut-eye, as these will give your replenishers ample time to work their magic.
