It’s been a lucky September for actor Priyanka Chopra, who can’t stop smiling at her recent success. The desi girl, who was recently in the capital to kickstart the promotion of her first international debut song In My City, looked visibly excited about her debut music album.

The actress also revealed her back-to-back “club crawling” plans in the city where she performed as a DJ in various nightclubs of the city and introduced her song to the masses.
While speaking to the media at a press conference, the actress said she was “overwhelmed” by the response she received so far and her title track is already triple platinum hit in India.
Speaking about the making of this album, she said, “The sales of this album have been great so far, and I think people have seen me acting so now they are curious about Priyanka as a singer. While making this album I worked with extremely talented musicians like Will.i.am and Red One and it was a very enriching experience for me. When I went to the recording studio for the first time, my heart was pounding and it was a very surreal experience for me.”
Priyanka mentions that as a child she used to sing, but never gave it a shot professionally. She says, “For Bluffmaster I had recorded a song, but we never released it as I was too shy then. When I was approached for this album by Universal, I was hesitant initially but I learned music and did preparations before entering the recording studio. On film sets I used to be with my music coach, who taught me Western classical music.”
Speaking about her taste in music, Priyanka says, “My taste in music is very eclectic. I like pop, electro and classical songs, depending on my mood. From Honey Singh to Abida Parveen, I listen to all kind of genres. When I was composing this album I wanted the world to get a taste of Indian flavours, so I used a lot of Indian instruments in the songs.”
A chirpy Priyanka also expressed her delight about Barfi’s nomination at the Oscar awards, and she said, “I am really excited about walking the red carpet at the Oscar awards. I have told my designer and I already have my sari and jewellery ready. We are hoping it gets selected and then we’ll promote the movie all over.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
