On the path of success
After winning accolades and a National Award for his performance in I Am Kalam, child actor Harsh Mayar is ready to show his second stint as an actor. The 14-year-old was in the capital recently to promote the film Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid, in which he has a grey character.
“I’m really excited for the film, as people will see me in a different role. However, the issue of female foeticide that we are addressing with the film is more important,” says the boy from Dakshinpuri in South Delhi.
Harsh says that he feels great to have come such a long way. He has acted in more than 400 films to finally get recognition with I Am Kalam. “I wanted to become an actor since the time I was five years old,” says Harsh, who started auditioning for films at the age of eight and got I Am Kalam at 11.
Now, he is happy that he doesn’t need to introduce himself. “Because of the National Award people know me, even in the film industry,” he quips.
Besides Jalpari, Harsh is also doing Chaar Futiya Chokre that is based in Bihar and is on the issue of child trafficking. In these three films, Harsh had to learn three new languages — Rajasthani, Haryanvi and Bihari. But he is ready to take up new challenges. “Nothing should be difficult for an actor. An actor should be like fluid and take his shape according to the mould,” says he.
