Part-time party jobs

How about getting all dressed up for a party in a posh nightclub, enjoying free entry, drinks and also getting paid for it? May sound surprising, but for many 20-something teenage girls and young professionals in the city, it’s a ‘why not?’ opportunity. And for them, it’s a cool new job, where they just have to look stunning, lift the party’s glam quotient, pose for shutterbugs, spend a few hours socialising, and then leave with a pay cheque.
Utkarsh Bansal, director, p3party.com, a nightlife portal, who organises hi-end parties and also requests good looking girls to come for major events, says that this “part-time party job” is getting popular among girls, who’re gorgeous and love to have a good time. “More hot looking girls, makes a party hit. Girls are mostly hired for beverage launches or special pub parties, according to our client’s demand. Although, it’s a hit among girls, who want to earn extra bucks, even girls from affluent families approach us, who just wanted to be a part of the hip crowd. They don’t charge anything, and just want to be popular as P3P regulars.”
He further adds, that to be on the party list, girls have to register themselves on the website and are later contacted whenever there is a need. “We build a database and inform them about the venue and perks. At times, we get contacts through our own friends. If the responses are more, we also conduct auditions to choose the best looking ones.”
And the stipend for such jobs is equally interesting. To be in a party for three to four hours, girls are usually paid Rs 3,000 to 5,000 per party, depending on the kind of event.
Reema, a college student from Delhi, keeps her weekend mostly free to attend many such dos. She says, “I don’t feel there’s anything wrong in it. In a city like Delhi, going to a simple pub costs a bomb. I study the whole week and keep the weekend for my work. Though, I’ve not told my folks about it. I know, what I’m doing is not wrong. And above all, it gives me extra pocket money, to live a good life.”
Girls, in fact are also given trendy outfits, beauty salon charges, and cabs. “At times, we ask them to dress up in their own outfits under a specific theme. We ensure nobody misbehaves with them in the party,” informs an event manager from East Delhi.
For Shweta, who works in a call centre, a long day in office ends with partying hard and extra earnings. She says, “It’s a great way to unwind and de-stress. It’s like earning around Rs 15,000 extra in a month, besides my salary.”
But more than desi girls, young firangs are preferred and are paid around Rs 15,000 upwards for one party. Marisha from Columbia, working as an intern at a hotel in Gurgaon, shares, “After I finished my hotel management from Columbia, I came here to do my internship. I was looking for a job, which does not disturb my work. So, this worked wonders for me, where a few hours of chilling out, gives you a good pay. Even in Columbia, such jobs are quite popular, which is now slowly picking up in India. By going out for such dos, I got to know, Delhi, its people and culture. And I think the crowd here is quite decent.”
