Only the best will get through: Shankar
Singer Shankar Mahadevan is leading an extremely busy life these days. The singer-cum-composer has just finished recording songs for the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and recently launched an online talent hunt called Mobi-Sur to tap singing talent from the farthest areas in the country.
But despite his busy schedule, Shankar makes sure that his family gets their own share of time. “Today time management is really crucial. You need to know how to balance your profession and family time,” says the singer.
Speaking about Mobi-Sur, an online talent hunt, which the singer launched recently to tap fresh talent from all over the country using a mobile phone, the singer says, “Traditionally, talent hunt programmes require a participant to come down to a city to showcase his/her talent.
They go through a lot of trouble just to get a chance to showcase their talent. Many a time a promising talent fails to reach there due to unfortunate circumstances. But here they can do that without leaving their homes. All a participant has to do is record a minute song on their mobile phone and then send it to us.”
Excited about using this new platform, the singer says, “I am an engineer. I have seen how technology has changed the way we record and compose a song. The world is advancing and the mobile platform is one of the biggest and most widely spread platforms in India, even bigger than television and radio. So, why not use it to give people a chance to showcase their singing talent?”
But while it’s easier to participate, Shankar says judging is a different ball-game altogether. He says that the participants are not going to have it easy. “You have to be a good singer. We have a lot of elimination rounds that will ensure that the best gets through,” he says.
