E-commerce fashion sites give shoppers ample opportunities for affordable shopping

With the rise in popularity of online shopping in the country, many fashion brands are now venturing into the online retail sector. Recently, a fashion website Koovs.com conducted a two-day fashion and lifestyle show to promote the idea of “affordable online fashion”.

Speaking about the USP of online shopping, Neha Nahata, promoter and designer of Koovs.com, mentions that soon there will be a rise in number of e-stores for people who love high-end fashion at affordable prices.
She says, “According to our market research, the online market in India is worth `10,000 crore and it will continue to grow in the coming years. The rise in e-commerce in tier two cities is huge and that’s the market we plan to tap.”
With benefits such as safe transactions, convenience, flexible payment options, cash on delivery, return policy, attractive offers, the virtual space is full of options for consumers. However, Manu K Jain, co founder and MD, Jabong.com, feels the e-commerce space in India is at a very nascent stage and with the increase in number of net users from current 100-120 million to 300-400 million users in next four-five years, the virtual market is expected to grow exponentially.
He says, “Online shopping will become more popular in India gradually, as it has lots of added benefits like time saving, fuel saving, quality control; people have the added privilege of being able to compare brands/styles/prices easily. Online shopping is rising tremendously not only in the metros but also becoming a trend in the small cities, where people have the aspiration and purchasing power to buy but do not have accessibility to the brands/products.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
