Oh boy! Ronaldo is a doting father
The Real Madrid star, Ronaldo who plays for Portugal, recently sent the soccer world flinging into the nets after he declared that he is a father. While he tweeted about his progeny (a boy), he requested everyone for privacy especially when it came to the mother’s identity. But with no matches on and semi-finals still a few days away, the media enjoyed a field day with rumours from possible deductions from ex-mates (Kim Kardarshian, Paris Hilton and Maria Sharapova included) to reasons why he needed to come out with the news at 25, when others (read Tiger Woods) had done exactly the opposite.
Ahtehsam Khan, who has worked as a football coach says while he is happy for him, the news could be a publicity stunt for generating controversy and eventually fame. “He has earned enough for generations and maybe he thought that marriage could lead to a nasty divorce and him parting with his moolah. So, he took this route,” he says. many are also comparing him to singer Ricky Martin. Martin also has surrogate twins and amidst intense speculation, finally declared that he was a ‘proud gay man.’ Aritha Chaudhuri, a copywriter observes, “I wonder why Ronaldo would need a surrogate mom for his kid? Someone, who not so long back was on top of the world, on the field and with beautiful women. Is he scared of commitment? Or could he be taking the metrosexual persona a little too far.”
But not all fans are suspicious about the decision. Shalini Sharma, a media professional opines that if Ronaldo assumes responsibility as he said he will, then it would only lead to a better life for the child. “Irrespective of how the child is born, he will have all the benefits of being a footballer’s son,” she says.
Although, some are not willing to go soft about his not-so-stellar performance at the World Cup. Shamit Rana, a student of Class 12, says, “He could just say that he was too busy trying to be a good father and thus didn’t perform too well.”
